How to make Candles Last Longer

Everyone is looking for ways to optimize their budgets. One way you can save money on your aromatic candles is to get them to last longer. We have some tips on how you can do just that.

New candles need to be shown the way.

When you first get a scented candle and light it for the first time, ensure that you allow it to burn for as long as possible. It needs to form a complete pool of melted wax across the surface of the candle. If you light it and let it begin a baby pool, the candle will only burn down that initial circumference the next time you light it. It will waste all the wax on the sides of the candle. Scented candles have memory. Ensure that you give it the best chance at success, and use as much of the wax as possible on its maiden burn.

Keep the candle in a protected area.

A sure-fire way to burn a scented candle quickly is to expose it to the wind, a drafty passage, or even in the path of a fan or air conditioner. Ensuring that your aromatic candle has protection from these windy areas will allow it to disperse the scent and last longer overall.

The longer the wick, the quicker the burn.

Trimming your wicks may seem counter-productive, but a shorter wick does have a few benefits. If your wick is too long, it can cause your candle to burn unevenly, causing a flood of wax into the center and extinguishing the flame. It can also cause your candle to smoke and leave a burned residue in the wax, which can smell unpleasant, especially with an aromatic candle.

Leave your candles to cool.

After burning your candle, allow it to cool 100% before lighting it again. The wax needs to harden before relighting it. The cooling process can take up to two hours. Another trick is to freeze your scented candle to preserve the smell and allow it to take longer to burn.

A suitable method for cooling your candle is to turn it upside down. This will drain excess wax and allow the wick to be exposed. You can then wipe the wick down once it has cooled, so it is ready for the next time.

Clean your candles

We don’t mean a bath or shower, but you do need to keep the candle pool clear of any debris that may have fallen into the candle. Often, burnt wick left over matches or even pet fur can get caught up in your candle wax. This will solidify into the wax if you leave it to cool in the wax. You will be sacrificing your aromatic candle’s scent if you are not diligent enough to keep it clean.
